Malino

Located at Tingimoncong Sub district, Gowa District 1500 m above sea level. 90 km away to south, about three hours from Makassar, the capital city of south Celebes. The malino sites can be reach using mass transportation such as bus, colt or taxi.

With mountains that rich of karst and pine trees view. Many of the tropical plant beautifully growth there. Beside that, Malino also produce many fruits and vegetables that growth in the slope of Mount Bawakaraeng. Most of the people there, assumed Mount Bawakaraeng as holy and sacred place. I ever watched some tv show abaout pilgrim of bawakaraeng. Like the moslem goes to Mecca for pilgrimage, some of the moslem surround the Bawakaraeng, had their own believe if they could hiking to the top of Bawakaraeng is the same with the pilgrimage journey already. And whom already applying that ritual has their statuss as Haji Bawakaraeng.

In Malino of course there’s a lot of place to fulfill the passion for recreation, as far as I know and I ever been there was, hutan wisata malino (Malino recreation forest) or well known with hutan pinus (pine forest). In this forest you can meet animal like burung nuri (Trichaglossus flavoridis), kera hitam (Macaca maura), biawak (Varanus salvator), jalak kerbau (Acridatheres sp), raja udang (Halcyon sp), and burung gelatik (Padda oryzofora). And also there’s a lot of plant such as pohon pinus/pine tree (Pinus merkusi) wich dominated the whole site, akasia (Acasia auriculiformis), jabon (Anthocepthalus cadamba), beringin (Ficus benjamina), ekaliptus (Eucalyptus sp), edelweis (Edelwesy sp), rotan (Calamus sp), kenanga (Cananga ordorata) and some bushes plant.

Also there's a waterfall named air tejun seribu tangga (thousand stairs fall’s), wich has a lot of stairs to reach to the fall. And the view so beautifull. I’ve been there with my high schoolmate, unfortunately that time everyone was so busy to go to the toilet, they make line of waiting, I don’t know why, but everyone got stomache. So just few of us that can catch the beauty of the fall. Nice place, nice memory.

Since the dutch colonialize Indonesia, the beauty of Malino has attract them also. That’s why they held a conference that named Malino conference in July 16th – 22nd 1946. To discuss about the idea of East Indonesia Country (Negara Indonesia Timur / NIT). Wich take place in Malino.

Malino also famous with the edelweis, the eternal flower and also the turi tree that has beautiful orange flower. When they bloom, it was so beautifull, you can see fantastic view from the air or from far distance. That’s why the city also well known with the flower city of south Celebes.

there are also tea, vegetables and fruits plantation in some area of Malino. The most fruits that very famous of Malino is Markisa, thas why in the Makassar city we can found a lot of markisa juice in the market sale for the souvenir of Celebes.
